GVT Rail System to Receive Five NYS Grants for 2024

Impacting all NY subsidiaries, critical capital investments total $11.706M

BATAVIA, NY – New York State Governor Kathy Hochul has announced that the New York railroads of GVT Rail System and local economic development partners are recipients of multiple 2024 Passenger and Freight Rail Assistance Program (PFRAP) grants. Covering all three of GVT’s Empire State railroads, the five (5) grants total $11.706M, and will provide necessary infrastructure investment for the counties, communities and customers served by GVT Rail.


  • $1.870M to the Depew, Lancaster & Western Railroad Company toward track capacity expansion of space andadditional tracks to meet customer demand and increase interchange capacity for DLWR’s Batavia operations.
  • $2.465M to the Falls Road Railroad Company for track rehabilitation that will improve the sidetracks serving the Nortera Brockport Facility and Lineage Logistics cold storage facility reducing truckload traffic and carbon footprint.
  • $4.714M to the Mohawk, Adirondack & Northern Railroad Corp for the construction of a rail transload warehouse in Utica for the reduction of truckload traffic.
  • $1.17M to the Mohawk, Adirondack & Northern Railroad Corp for the Newton Falls Branch Bridge and culvert improvements to restore the line to service.
  • $1.487M to the County of Orleans IDA for Industrial track access improvements to better serve customers.
